Owner cites economic challenges and staffing shortages as key factors in decision to close |
After serving the Rochester community for over 30 years, New England Pizza and Roast Beef is set to close its doors on August 29, 2024.
Owner Jay Picard announced the closure, expressing gratitude to loyal patrons and acknowledging the difficulties faced by the restaurant industry.
"The economy is really hard right now," Picard stated, highlighting the challenges of hiring and retaining staff.
Located at 195 Wakefield Street in the Lilac Plaza, the restaurant has been a staple in the community.
Upcoming renovations planned for the plaza added to the decision to close, as construction would have required intermittent closures, further straining the business.
Picard retains rights to the restaurant's name and recipes, leaving the door open for future endeavors.
As Rochester continues to evolve, with developments like the new casino and hotel nearby, the community reflects on the impact of longstanding establishments like New England Pizza and Roast Beef.
Residents are encouraged to visit before the final day to enjoy a last meal and bid farewell to a beloved local institution. |
